Catch up on the latest events and activities of the Nigerian Economic Summi=
t Group in February 2025.=C2=A0

On 28th of February 2025, the NESG convened a high-level strategic workshop=
 on agriculture and food security in collaboration with the Presidential Fo=
od Systems Coordinating Unit (PFSCU) and the National Bureau of Statistics =
(NBS). The event brought together key stakeholders from government, interna=
tional organisations, financial institutions, and the private sector to fos=
ter sustainable agricultural growth and food security solutions in Nigeria.

On 27th of February 2025, the NESG Research Team, led by our Head of Resear=
ch and Development, Dr Joseph Ogebe, had a productive engagement with the A=
frican Development Bank Group Public Financial Management Team. Key discuss=
ions with Peter Engbo Rasmussen (Principal Country Economist, AfDB) and Ibr=
ahim Bangura Ansu (Principal Governance Lead, AfDB) focused on evaluating P=
hase I of AfDB=E2=80=99s Budget Support Program and its role in improving N=
igeria=E2=80=99s fiscal performance.

On 26th of February 2025, Mrs. Maria Hig=C3=B3n, Charg=C3=A9 d=E2=80=99Affa=
ires of the Embassy of Spain, hosted the NESG delegation for an insightful =
presentation of the 2025 Macroeconomic Outlook Report titled "Stabilisation=
 in Transition: Rethinking Reform Strategies for 2025 and Beyond." Led by M=
s Seun Ojo, Head of Public Affairs & Public Policy, and Dr Joseph Ogebe, He=
ad of Research and Development at the NESG, the discussions focused on econ=
omic reforms, investment opportunities, and key policies to drive industria=
l growth, FDI, job creation, and trade facilitation.

On 26th of February, 2025, the NESG in collaboration with the GIZ-Partnersh=
ip for Accelerated Global Energy Transition (PACT), held a high-level stake=
holder engagement session on Wednesday, February 26, 2025. The session focu=
sed on driving Nigeria=E2=80=99s successful energy transition by providing =
guidance to partners involved in related initiatives and supporting targete=

On 17th of February 2025, our CEO, Dr Tayo Aduloju participated as a paneli=
st at the Sports Africa Investment Summit (SAIS) 2025, held at the Lagos Co=
ntinental Hotel. He joined industry experts in a discussion on "Delivering =
Economic Value =E2=80=93 Maximizing the Cross-Sectoral, Cross-Cutting Natur=
e of Sports." The session underscored the immense economic potential of spo=
rts in Africa, exploring strategies to leverage sports as a key driver of G=
DP growth, job creation, and investment.

On 11th of February, 2025, our CEO, Dr. Tayo Aduloju, delivered an insightf=
ul presentation at the 2025 Q1 CEO Business Meeting organised by the Embass=
y of Sweden and Business Sweden for Swedish-related companies in Nigeria. A=
ddressing the esteemed audience of business leaders and international stake=
holders, Dr. Aduloju emphasised the critical elements necessary for achievi=
ng significant economic stability as highlighted in the NESG 2025 Macroecon=
omic Outlook. His presentation covered key macroeconomic indicators, policy=
 imperatives, and strategic pathways for fostering growth, competitiveness,=
 and resilience in Nigeria=E2=80=99s economy.

On 5th of February 2025, the board members of the Nigerian Economic Summit =
Group (NESG), alongside policy commission leaders, corporate members, staff=
 and other key stakeholders, embarked on a strategic visit to the Dangote P=
etroleum Refinery and Petrochemical Complex. Our delegation was warmly rece=
ived by Aliko Dangote, President of the Dangote Group, who led us on an ins=
ightful tour of the refinery, the fertilizer plant, and other critical faci=

On 5th of February, 2025, the NESG Head of Research and Development, Dr Jos=
eph Ogebe delivered an insightful presentation on the 2025 Macroeconomic Ou=
tlook to Mr. Akhil Bhardwaj, Japan Tobacco International (JTI) Regional Pre=
sident for the Middle East, Near East, Africa, and Turkey (MENEAT), along w=
ith his team, as part of activities marking his visit to Nigeria. The prese=
ntation provided a comprehensive analysis of Nigeria=E2=80=99s economic tra=
jectory, highlighting key trends, challenges, and opportunities that will s=
hape the country=E2=80=99s economic landscape in 2025.=C2=A0

The NESG-Stanbic IBTC Business Confidence Monitor (BCM) is the flagship sur=
vey-based report of the Nigerian Economic Summit Group (NESG), supported by=
 Stanbic IBTC. Businesses in Nigeria recorded a modest improvement in perfo=
rmance in January 2025, signalling an uplift in the business environment an=
d potentially improved business performance in 2025. As a result, the curre=
nt Business Performance Index for January 2025 stands at +8.12, reflecting =
a rise in business activities and a moderate improvement compared to +0.77 =

On January 20, 2025, Donald Trump began his second term as the President of=
 the United States of America, reviving the =E2=80=9CAmerica First=E2=80=9D=
 agenda with a focus on trade protectionism, tax reforms, immigration polic=
y, energy dominance, and fiscal restraint. Since resumption, he has signed =
more than 65 executive orders with about 16 memoranda on trade, immigration=
, foreign aid, and workforce policies, some facing legal challenges.His adm=
inistration paused foreign aid programmes, citing inefficiency, a move like=

Nigeria's mining sector, endowed with over 40 valuable mineral deposits, ho=
lds significant potential for economic diversification, job creation, inves=
tment attraction/retention, and broad-based development. Over several decad=
es, a centralized governance structure has led to regulatory uncertainties,=
 deterring investment and causing dissatisfaction among state governments r=
elegated to mere revenue-sharing roles. It has prompted states to enact reg=
ulations to control mineral development and mitigate mining's adverse effec=
