I&rsquo;m in Bangalore this week, where I just finished moderating a panel on the future of urban mobility. Much of the discussion focused on public-transport systems and the switch to electric cars. But city planners worldwide are also becoming more interested in walkability&mdash;and in places known as &ldquo;15-minute cities&rdquo;, where everything that locals need is within easy reach.

         I&rsquo;m in Bangalore this week, where I just finished moderating a panel on the future of urban mobility. Much of the discussion focused on public-transport systems and the switch to electric cars. But city planners worldwide are also becoming more interested in walkability&mdash;and in places known as &ldquo;15-minute cities&rdquo;, where everything that locals need is within easy reach.<br>

         We recently published a ranking of the cities that do this best. (India&rsquo;s

          didn&rsquo;t make the top 50.) In the top-ranked city the average resident can walk to most amenities in just over six minutes. Researchers say that pedestrian-friendly places like this offer lessons for reducing car dependence and improving urban life everywhere.
